Before the destuffing

Ah, the joys of Christmas... Crunch and Gus were not left out of the festivities. We have generally made it our policy to avoid purchasing anything made of cloth and stuffed with batting. The reason for this is simple. The lifespan of these types of articles is so short; you could blink and the toy is destroyed. We decided to make an excetion. Target has a decent selection of dog goods. There were some small furry owls that met the criteria for a good destuffing, chewing, destroying time. We gave them the owls Christmas morning and they loved them. Crunch immediately destuffed and in some spots, "defurred", the small defenseless stuffed owl. Our little bully then plotted on ways to steal Gus' owl to further obliterate the owl species. I have been picking up pieces of evidence all over the carpet ever since. It feels just like I picking up small toys for weeks after Christmas when son was young. :)

Fun in the Sun

Well, the boys scored a pool and are having a great time fetching, running, and digging holes in the back yard. The last "fun" activity makes the back area an extremely dangerous place for the two-legged of our household. It's amazing how the grass camouflages the rather deep holes so nicely. What an exciting time for us all....like walking through a minefield!

The Lazy Days of Summer

The heat has officially crept in on us. The dogs can't stay out for very long between noon and 6:00pm without getting extremely hot. They still want to go out. They are just ready to come back inside a lot quicker. I need to get a kiddie pool. The pool from last year only made it through one season. Oh well, they are cheap.

Mother's Day

We spent today hiking a trail at a state park. The weather was great and the trail was shady. Both dogs were in heaven and loved sniffing, pouncing, and discovering. The end of the trail led upwards to an overlook where you had quite a view. The only problem we had on this walk was the stairs leading to this final destination. Gus decided he couldn't bear to go up. He dug his doggie heels in with a defiant " not going anywhere" attitude. I ended up carrying him up the steps behind my husband and Crunch. Yes, it was exhausting. Gus was fine up on the overlook. Of course, he had no problem going DOWN the steps. Both dogs fell asleep in the car on the return trip home.

Growing up Cairn

Cairns are so much like children that sometimes I forget they're dogs. Crunch had his second birthday this month, and I felt guilty for not throwing him a party or showering him with gifts. He did get a green football that he loves. It's probably all a dog needs. Nevertheless, my affection for this twosome borders on the ridiculous. Just tonight, Crunch (who is extremely affectionate) curled up on my husband's lap to nap. I thought that a cuddly dog with a sweet smelling head ALMOST rivals the wonderful sensation of holding a sleeping baby you love. Our other pup is Gus. Last Saturday, he had his yearly checkup at the vet for shots and such. I was more than a little concerned about his weight. He is twice Crunch's size. He is our "Baby Huey". The vet says, "He's fine. Just watch his weight since he doesn't need to gain more." Whew....relief. Being a dog mom is not as easy if you think like a "mom".
